LCBMIT to Develop Post Graduate Diploma in Global Community Entrepreneurship (GCE)
The Postgraduate Diploma in Global Community Entrepreneurship (GCE) is being designed by London College of Business Management of Information Technology (LCBMIT), the independent education arm of Stockwell Green Community Services (SGCS), in partnership with a top UK university, who will award the final Master MSc/MBA Award.
There is great demand from many third sector organisations such as social enterprises, charities and NGO’s, for individuals with entrepreneurial and commercial acumen, coupled with a community conscience and understanding of the needs of their communities.
This is a flagship qualification for the College as LCBMIT itself is an enterprise with a social purpose. This will really differentiate LCBMIT’s qualifications from its competitors. The College already has plans to create a range of specialist pathways.
Communities are faced with issues such as poverty, water scarcity, HIV, unemployment, lack of education, etc. There is a need for a qualification that develops the skills of individuals to take ownership and address these issues. This is the essence of the UK government’s Big Society mission, and so the course will also be uniquely targeted at public sector workers who will be given the option of setting up co-operatives.
The qualification’s global focus will aim to ensure that students from any country and background learn from best practices around the world, and can take their missions and purpose further, whether to Pakistan, Brazil, or the UK. Our International Community Development module is our NGO pathway, for those seeking to run projects in developing and emerging countries.
Students will also learn amongst other things how to design effective campaigns, market their services, motivate and lead people, manage change, develop a strategy for their social business and raise necessary funds to be able to support this.
The Postgraduate Certificate stage of the qualification will be available from September 2011.
