May 2011 Executive Lecture Series is the best yet

Executive Lecture Series

Each year the LCBMIT brings an extraordinary group of alumni, government officials, entrepreneurs and friends to the campus to provide students with an Insider’s prospective on the world of business, education , government and social welfare sectors.

Through 50 minutes classroom lectures, invited professional brings the curriculum to life for students enrolled on our business and management programs.

This years saw the best mix of guest lecturers with the highest attendance by students and the local community. The student benefit tremendously from the wisdom and experience of an outstanding group of business practitioners, educationist, social activists and successful entrepreneur while visiting executive enjoy reconnecting with the students.

Guest Speaker: Mark Tadman

Position: Entrepreneur, Owner of SBS

Mark Tadman has worked in Education for 8 years now and has been part of hugely successful service delivery to schools and colleges. His commitment to excellent customer service and continuous improvement programs have overseen many successful years of managing services to schools. Mark’s background is IT in the private sector working for some leading names in the delivery of ICT services to large customer bases, notably with EDS and Argos. The experience gained in managing such large numbers of customers has influenced the use of technology wherever possible to provide solutions whilst meeting agreed budgets.

With his business partner, Mark has turned SBS into one of the UK’s leading suppliers of education support services; with a portfolio that includes the full spectrum of ICT, Financial & Business Management and Management Information Systems support. The teams are currently based in and around London, Leeds and the South West.


Guest Speaker: Dr. Fragkiskos Filippaios

Position: Director Postgraduate Development and  Accreditations, Kent University

Dr. Fragkiskos Filippaios is the Director for Postgraduate Development and Accreditations and a Senior Lecturer in International Business at Kent University. Previously he was the International MBA Course Director at Kingston Business School, Kingston University London holding the responsibility for all international MBA programmes offered by Kingston University London, in Russia, Greece, Cyprus and India.  In the academic year 2007/2008 he was the Ministry of Economy and Finance Senior Research Fellow at the Hellenic Observatory, European Institute, London School of Economics, where he is a Visiting Fellow.

His research interests are on the roles of subsidiaries of Multinational Enterprises, the location strategies of multinationals’ subsidiaries, the role of technology in the multinational group and the empirical assessment of Foreign Direct Investment.


Guest Speaker: Luke Powell

Position: Client Portfolio Manager (Real Estate Division), Aviva Insurers

Luke Powell’s role involves representing Aviva Investors’ real estate product offering to existing and prospective clients, keeping clients up to date with developments in the real estate market and helping them to identify the best way of accessing      opportunities in the sector. Luke joined Aviva Investors in July 2007. Before that, he was an    Associate Director at DTZ Consulting & Research, where he led a team   responsible for research on the    European real estate market.

Prior to joining the real estate industry, Luke worked for a consultancy company that specialised in carrying out projects for public-sector bodies. He carried out policy evaluations for clients including the European Commission and the Department of Work and Pensions. Luke holds a B.A. in Philosophy, Politics and Economics and an M.Phil. in European Politics, both from Oxford University. He also holds the Investment Management Certificate.


Guest Speaker: Professor Martin Reynolds

Position: Head of the Centre of Leadership and Management Practice, Birmingham City University

Professor Martin Reynolds has over thirty years of experience working  in UK university sector at Sheffield Hallam University, Nottingham Trent University, Anglia Ruskin University and from October 2010 Birmingham City University.  He has held senior management positions as Head of Department, Dean and recently Pro-Vice Chancellor and Dean for 18 years. At Birmingham City University he is Professor of Management Practice and is Head of a new Centre of Leadership and Management Practice.

Professor Reynolds’ passion and cause is to contribute to the innovation of business and management education through the development and implementation of practice based models of management education and research. His career achievements evidence the kind of innovations that have been initiated by him.
